Aalborg University Hospital is the largest hospital in the North Jutland region of Denmark. Up to 3,000 blood samples arrive here in the lab every day. They must be tested and sorted – a time-consuming and monotonous process which was done manually until now. 🦾

The university hospital has now automated the procedure: two lab robots and intelligent transport boxes ensure the quality of the samples – and show how workflows in hospitals can be simplified by automation.🤩

✅ How it works:
The oil collector tube of the oil skimmer floats on the water surface. The floating oil sticks to the outside of the oil collector tube. The oil collector tube is drawn with the oil into the oil skimmer. Scrapers remove the oil from the surface of the oil collector tube. The oil floats into a collecting tank.

The oil collector tube creates a movement on the water surface and attracts the oil and fat even from the corners of the basins, because the oil collector tube floats on the surface of the liquid. Because it reaches the whole surface of the tank, it picks up oil from the total surface and exact separation of oil and water is guaranteed.

It's more than 5,000 multinational companies in Malaysia have embraced the challenges of the technological evolution. Based on research conducted by PwC, Industry 4.0 sees a promising future in the digitization of products and services and means of robotic manufacturing and engineering – companies expect to reduce operational costs by 3.6% per annum while increasing efficiency by 4.1% annually – over the course of five years.📈

Malaysia is still lagging behind in the pecking order which they already have Industry 4.0 policy frameworks. With only three years left to 2020, most of the companies have started to generate new applications and find ways to leverage on these technologies to their competitive advantages – that are not only beneficial to consumers but also profitable to the market.💯

Welding jigs are typically custom made, per application. With such customization in industrial settings, jigs often come with the following issues:

☘️ They can cost several $10's or $100's of thousands of dollars.
☘️ They lack flexibility. If there are engineering changes to the product, the jig must be manually modified or replaced which can hinder mix model production.
☘️ They are prone to errors. Parts are usually fed to the jig by a human operator. In some cases, there are hundreds of different, yet similar parts. It is easy to make a mistake.
☘️ They require low value-added work of filling them with parts.

So if these issues exist, why are jigs still used in robotic welding❓ The first reason is because jigs have been the industry standard for many years. The second reason is because it is technically challenging to replace them. This is especially true when there are a high number of different parts to weld.
